Is this absence a pattern worth a chat?
Enter the spells and days, get the Bradford Factor score, and a plain-English read on what it does — and does not — mean.
What the Bradford Factor is
The Bradford Factor is a simple, widely used way to weigh the disruption of absence. It multiplies the number of separate spells by itself, then by total days: spells × spells × days. Because spells are squared, frequent short absences score far higher than one longer absence — for example 1 spell of 10 days scores 10, but 10 one-day spells score 1,000.
Is this a decision or a disciplinary tool?
No. It's a pattern indicator to help you notice when a supportive conversation might be worth having. Any formal step should follow your own policy and consider the reasons behind the absence — including disability or health issues that need a different, supportive approach.
What trigger points should we use?
There's no legal figure — organisations set their own. The bands below are common starting points, not rules. Always look at the story behind the number.
Do you store what I enter?
No. It's worked out in your browser and nothing is saved or sent.
